My good friend Andrew Breitenberg recently returned from my home town, Harare, Zimbabwe, where he practiced the subversive art of Psalm writing on whatever he could find. It gives a whole new meaning to contextualizing Scripture!

This is in many ways a new paradigm in missions, which recognizes aesthetics and beauty as authentic ways of knowing,  being and communicating. It challenges the notion that missional engagement has to be only functional.

Or one could call it street liturgy – the work and worship of the people on the street, literally – writing hope in the dust.
